READING CORNER – RELAXATION AND INSPIRATION

Books are like gateways to other universes, excuses to escape from everyday life, source of inspiration and knowledge, peace and relaxation. Reading is an important part of life, whether we are talking about printed or digital books. That is why setting up a reading corner in the house is essential. And a proper interior design can transform this space into the oasis of calm, energy and optimism that we all need.

Space

First of all, the reading corner must provide proper environment for concentration, without noise or other disturbing or distracting factors. Ideally there would be a separate room dedicated to reading and individual study. But, when this is not possible, the reading corner can also be set up in other rooms. Most often, it is found in the living room or bedroom. But it can work just as well in the open area under the stairs, in the upstairs hall, on the terrace or on the balcony. Regardless of the space chosen for arranging the place dedicated to reading, it will be delimited from the rest of the interior space, either by a distinct carpet, either by applying a decorative wallpaper or painting the wall in that area in a different shade than the rest of the room.

Furniture

What can be more relevant for a reading corner, if not books? Especially for lovers of printed books. Therefore, this area will include a library or bookshelves. But the most important thing remains the comfort obtained. Most often, an armchair with wide upholstered arms is placed in the reading corner. A nest or puff armchair, a two-seater sofa with a high back or a chaise longue are also optimal solutions for comfortable reading for a longer period of time. Depending on the available space, the reading corner can also include a small table for a cup of tea, coffee or other drinks that will complete the overall experience.

Lighting

Light is vital in a reading corner. Poor lighting can ruin the atmosphere and enjoyment of reading. Ideally, the area dedicated to reading should be positioned near the window, to benefit from natural light. But a source of artificial light is also necessary, especially since most reading breaks are in the evening, after a busy day. Choose a table or floor lamp or a pendant lamp mounted at an appropriate height on the nearest wall. It is important that the source provides enough light to read comfortably, without shadows on the pages of the book.

Colors

Calm, pastel colors are ideal for the reading corner, as they are soothing to the eyes and create a peaceful, relaxing atmosphere. Neutral colors, white, beige and gray tones, but also pastel shades of green and blue are soothing and give a sense of security. That is why they are recommended both for the walls or the furniture in the reading corner, as well as for the accessories in this space.

Accessories

Fabrics and accessories in the reading corner can be even more playful, but without the clutter of textures or colors. In this space, carpets, curtains or cushions are not only decorative elements, but complement the necessary comfort, having also a role in absorbing the sound from the area and surroundings. The reading corner will be decorated simply, in a minimalist style. A few candles and green plants or simple black metal decorations, possibly placed among the books on the shelves, will be enough to create a special reading corner.
