08 Jul MODERN DESIGN FOR THE GARDEN: GLASS PAVILION
Would you like to spend more time at home, but at the same time close to nature? Or would you like to create a space in the yard for recreation and hosting parties with family and friends? Arranging a pavilion in the garden is the perfect element for a modern and welcoming garden.
A garden pavilion is a sturdy structure with a roof, placed in the open air, supported by posts or columns. It generally has open sides and a house-like roof, but there are also structures with glass walls and even a glass ceiling.
In order to set up a functional and attractive pavilion, you must take certain aspects into account:
- The size and facilities of the pavilion will be related to its purpose. The pavilion can be used either as an intimate relaxation space, as an office space during the summer or to host holiday and birthday parties or gatherings with friends to watch movies or sports competitions. The pavilion should be in proportion to the size of the garden – a large yard offers the necessary space for a large pavilion, while for a smaller garden a narrow pavilion is recommended so as not to overwhelm the landscape.
- The pavilion can be placed anywhere in the garden. A poolside pavilion will provide welcome space to hide from the sun’s rays. While a pavilion that is intended for dining would better be located near the kitchen or barbeque area. Don’t forget the view you can enjoy while sitting inside the pavilion. Thus, choose a green area with wide opening and flowers.
- The functionality of the pavilion can be accentuated by the equipment included in the interior space. You can consider a heat source for late summer nights or cool spring and fall days, for example an outdoor fireplace that will also add elegance to the pavilion. Also, don’t forget about comfortable chairs or armchairs, an extendable table and a bar, decorative and ambient lighting, audio and video systems, as well as additional storage spaces.
- The design of the pavilion should complement the architecture of the house. A rustic pavilion behind a Victorian house will look a little bit odd, while a glass pavilion will accentuate the style of a modern home.
The garden pavilion is an alternative to the terrace or veranda, being perfect for gatherings with family and friends. Outdoor pavilions are popular not only because they are functional, but also because they offer a luxurious feel. And a glass pavilion also offers the advantage of enjoying the landscape and nature, even on windy or rainy days.
