20 May STRIPES IN INTERIOR DESIGN
Stripes remain an important element in interior design, regardless of the style approached. Stripes are often integrated into design projects with nautical themes. But, used correctly and with creativity, stripes can add a special visual impact, bringing a touch of luxury to any interior. Stripes can be used both for tapestry or decorative objects, but also for walls and also ceiling, either through painting or wallpaper.
The benefits of integrating stripes into interior design
Stripes are a great way to bring energy into an interior space. As well as adding a sense of drama, linear structure can be enriched by complementing it with contrasting patterns and colors.
Stripes are the perfect choice for small rooms, as they can create the illusion of increased space. Vertical stripes make ceilings appear taller, while using horizontal stripes can make a room appear wider. Another solution is to continue the vertical stripes from the walls to the ceiling surface, since this technique opens up the interior space even more, providing also the right background for creative design plays.
If it is your first time tackling this style, you can start by integrating stripes in smaller rooms, such as bathrooms or transitional hallways between rooms. However, the stripes are extremely charming and attractive for kitchens and bedrooms.
You can mix the striped design with other patterns and textures or use stripes of different widths to create a modern and playful look.
Types of stripes for walls
Stripes are one of the most common patterns when it comes to wall design, as there is a wide range of options that can be adapted to any interior design. You can choose models with vertical or horizontal stripes, with one, two or more stripes, monochrome or multi-colored.
If you want to create a focal point while remaining in a simple design style, you can opt for a single wide horizontal stripe in the center of the wall. For the multi-stripe design option, either horizontal or vertical, you can opt for wide stripes in neutral shades, which provide a tone of elegance, or thin, more frequent stripes, for a stronger impact and increased expansion effect of space.
If you choose vertical stripes in several colors, it is recommended to paint only one wall in this way, while the other walls remain painted in a single shade of color, preferably a neutral color, to highlight the striped wall and not tire the eyes.
A bolder stripe pattern is the zigzag. Especially suitable for a child’s room or office, zigzag stripes can be applied to an entire wall or just a section of a wall to give the room a new point of interest.
Colors for striped walls
The stripes themselves are a complex design for the walls, so it is recommended to use soothing colors. Thus, the room will not become too visually loaded, and the walls will allow creative games of colors, patterns and textures for furniture and decoration items.
You can, however, also opt for bolder shades, especially if the other elements of the room are in neutral color palette.
A special option for stripes on the wall is to paint the walls white and add thin black stripes to one of the walls, without covering the entire wall with stripes. You can thus create real musical stave on the wall, while the musical notes can be replaced with small decorative accents or photos. You will obtain an original model and a special atmosphere in your home interior.
Regardless of the chosen design, carefully chosen stripes and colors will lead to a perfect result. Create a balanced game of contrasts, keeping the big picture in mind and choosing the stripe pattern that suits your design style and desired effect.
